Basic Statistics

Description: 

This course is designed to give you an overview about basic knowledge in statistics. 

It will start with several input sessions and exercises that you will watch and work on independently within one week - plan approx. 6 hours for this. The video recordings of the input sessions as well as the exercises will be made available on a platform. In a chat, the trainer can be contacted at any time if you have questions. The workshop ends with a live Q&A session, if possible, in presence in the GSLS building.

The course will cover the following topics, which are clarified by examples:

  • Experimental design
  • Data collection and data entry
  • Design of statistical data analysis
  • Selecting the appropriate method of analysis (overview)
  • Related/unrelated samples
  • Measurement level/variable types
  • Precondition testing, normal distribution
  • Sample size planning and power analysis
  • Mixed and questions

Note: Registration of GSLS doctoral researchers has priority to non-GSLS participants. Non-GSLS participants pay a service and workshop fee of EUR 50 by bank transfer.
