Aims of this workshop:
- To develop a clear-cut and confident small-talk style at academic occasions, including, but not limited to, a profound understanding of small talk topics, possible communication styles, politeness in an intercultural context as well as issues and topics to be avoided.
- To overcome the fear of talking (in english), particularly about issues you feel insecure talking about.
Methods:
This workshop offers an interactive training of a wide range of small talk topics, forms of politeness, addressing and treating people of various backgrounds, including elements of intercultural competence. The trainer uses different methods: memory techniques, vocabulary exercises, role plays, discussions, and different media to support long-term memory of learned phrases and vocabulary.
Note: Registration of GSLS/GSST doctoral researchers has priority to non-GSLS/non-GSST participants. Non-GSLS/non-GSST participants pay a service and workshop fee of EUR 50 by bank transfer.
Please note that the cancellation option via OpenCampus ends 5 working days before the workshop date. Please write an email to gsls-info@uni-wuerzburg.de if you have to cancel within this 5-day time period.
If you just don’t show up at the workshop without prior cancellation several times, you will lose priority for future bookings.
